How to Get Wrinkles out of Pleather
Faux leather jackets and other faux leather garments are very much in style. But, they wrinkle very easily unlike real leather.
You can’t just iron them like you can a cotton t shirt. But, there are ways you can remove creases without damaging faux leather.
If you have stains to remove, this cleaner is the absolute best!
What is faux leather?
Faux leather is a man-made fabric that looks and feels like leather but is made from polyurethane, polyester, or PVC.
It is often referred to as pleather which is a combination of the word PVC and leather. It’s most commonly seen in pants, jackets, and skirts.
How do you fix wrinkled faux leather?
There are a few ways you can remove wrinkles from faux leather. Using this steam iron on the lowest setting works best for me.
Can you iron faux leather?
It isn’t recommended to iron faux leather. However, if you use a very low setting and keep the iron moving at all times, you may be able to.
It’s very important that you do not use medium heat or higher. And, make sure you don’t apply too much pressure or too much heat. Keep the faux leather cool to avoid damage.

Remove wrinkles from a fabric backing
If your faux leather jacket has a backing, you can remove creases by steaming them over the hottest water.
Fill a large pot with water and bring it to a boil.
Hang your garment on a hanger over the pot of boiling water. Make sure the fabric surface is facing down.
Allow the steam to penetrate the garment for several minutes. Don’t let the material get too hot or you may damage the faux leather.
Removing creases and wrinkles from faux leather garments
Here are some tips on how to get wrinkles out of pleather:
1. Hang your faux leather items on clothes hangers. Fill a spray bottle with warm water and lightly mist the back of the faux leather garment.
2. Use a hairdryer set on low heat to gently blast the wrinkles in faux leather items. You may need to do this a few times to get all the wrinkles out. I find it helpful to use an ironing board for this method.
3. Another option is to lay your pleather garment on a flat surface and use a steam iron set on low heat. Place a thin clean towel over the pleather before you iron it. This will protect the fabric from getting damaged by the iron.
4. If you don’t have a steam iron, you can use a regular iron set on the lowest heat setting. Place a cotton cloth or towel over the faux leather before you iron it. You can try the steam iron method with faux leather furniture.
5. Hang your garment up to dry on the shower bar or the bathroom door. Once it’s dry, the wrinkles should be gone. Never put faux leather in the clothing dryer.
6. If you’re still seeing wrinkles in your faux leather goods, repeat steps 1-5 until they are all gone.
Prevent wrinkles in faux leather clothing
To prevent wrinkles in your pleather garments, follow these tips:
1. Store your pleather garment on a clothes hanger. If you’re going to be storing it for a long period of time, put it in a garment bag.
2. When you’re not wearing your pleather garment, hang it up. Folding will only add more creases and wrinkled areas.
3. Avoid folding your pleather garment. If you must fold it, do so carefully. Be sure the material is as flat and smooth as possible.
4. When packing a faux leather item in a suitcase, roll it up instead of folding it. This will help prevent creases in most fabrics.
5. Avoid sitting on or leaning against surfaces that will crease the fabric.
