Cooking With Deema-Introducing my Youtube Video on the Recipe
From my newly launched Youtube video, I am hoping to build an audience of food lovers who want easy-to-follow recipes to try at their own residence. You can find my video on my channel, deemaayoubi1. This video is for anyone struggling to make a dish of their own for their cravings. Whether they are college students like me or wanting to impress a group of people, my video is perfect for the occasion. I expect my video to reach people through the Youtube algorithm when they search for cooking videos or on how to specifically prepare chicken fried rice. The importance of Youtube content can be explained well by Christine T. Wolf in “DIY Videos on YouTube: Identity and Possibility in the Age of Algorithms,” especially DIY projects like my recent cooking video. She also speaks on how Algorithmic systems have become an increasingly prevalent part of life and how they generate an audience for your post based on a number of factors. Since I am new at creating content, my video may not reach a large audience, but with consistency, my videos can be more apparent on the algorithm. I hope that this chicken fried rice recipe video can give my viewers—who may have never tried to make a traditional Chinese meal—a feeling of “confidence or self-efficacy.”
Chicken fried rice is a classic dish that is a go-to for many people when they want a quick and easy meal that is both filling and delicious. It is definitely most popular to order at a Chinese restaurant, or for take-out, however I encourage my viewers to take it in their own hands to curate this meal. It’s a versatile dish that can be made with a variety of ingredients, making it a great way to use up leftover rice and vegetables. In this blog post, I will share my recipe for making chicken fried rice at home that is sure to become a new favorite in your kitchen.
Prep time: 10-15 minutes
Cook: 15 minutes
Serves 3
Ingredients:
- 1 cup cooked white rice
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
- 1 lb boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into bite-sized pieces
- 1/2 onion, diced
- 3 scallions, diced
- 1 tbsp of cilantro
- A range of vegetables can be used such as peas, carrots, broccoli, and mushrooms(versatile)
- 2 eggs, beaten
- 3 tbsp soy sauce, or as needed
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
Step-by-Step Instructions:
- Prepare rice by adding 1 cup of rice to 2 cups of water with a sprinkle of salt for about 20 minutes on the stove or until there is no water left in the pot
- Add the chicken and cook for 5-7 minutes or until golden brown and cooked through. Remove the chicken from the skillet and set aside.
- In a large skillet or wok, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Add the onions first. When the onions are transparent add the rest of your vegetables to the pan and saute for 2-3 minutes
- Create an open circle in the middle of the pan by pushing the vegetables to the side of the skillet and add the beaten eggs to the empty space. Scramble the eggs until cooked and then mix in with the vegetables.
- Move the vegetable and egg mixture to one half of the pan and add the cooked rice and soy sauce and sesame oil to the skillet and mix well with the vegetables and eggs. Stir in the cooked chicken and season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Cook for an additional 3-5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until everything is heated through and the flavors have melded together.
- Add the scallions and cilantro to garnish
- Serve hot and enjoy!
