Instant Pot Frozen Vegetables

If you need an easy, hands-off way to make healthy side dishes for dinner, using your Instant Pot to cook frozen vegetables is perfect.

With most frozen vegetables, you can pretty much set it and forget it until you hear the Instant Pot’s timer go off.

Here’s how to do it:

How to Cook Frozen Vegetables in the Instant Pot

  1. Add a cup of water to your Instant Pot.
  2. Put your frozen vegetables in your steamer basket.
  3. Put the filled steamer basket into your Instant Pot.
  4. Secure the lid on your Instant Pot.
  5. Set your Instant Pot to Manual, and set the timer to zero (for non-starchy vegetables). See below for more specific time recommendations.
  6. Allow the Instant Pot to come to pressure. As it does, your frozen vegetables will thaw and cook.
  7. When the Instant Pot’s timer goes off, carefully turn the valve to do a quick release. Protect your hands and be careful, because steam will quickly escape out of the valve, and it’s easy to get burned.
  8. After the pressure has released, remove Instant Pot lid, season, and serve.

For most frozen vegetables, just setting the timer to zero, allowing the Instant Pot to come to pressure, and doing a quick release will do the trick.

However, if you want to cook starchy vegetables, you’ll want to let them cook for longer.

Here are some more specific time recommendations:

  • Frozen broccoli = 0 minutes
  • Frozen cauliflower = 0 minutes
  • Frozen peas = 0 minutes
  • Frozen carrots = 1 minute
  • Frozen brussel sprouts = 1 minute

What is the Best Instant Pot Steamer Basket?

I found an inexpensive steamer basket online, and I like it because:

  • It’s a good size for cooking frozen vegetables
  • It has legs on the bottom – this keeps your food out of the water you put in the bottom of the pot.
  • It’s dishwasher-friendly

Why Use Frozen Vegetables in your Instant Pot?

A lot of people think less of frozen vegetables and prefer fresh produce.

And if fresh produce is in season, there’s no doubt that it’s absolutely delicious.

I love using frozen vegetables because they make my life easier.

  • They are often less expensive than fresh produce
  • I don’t have to worry about them going bad in a couple of days
  • Often, frozen veggies are actually higher quality than fresh produce in your grocery store
  • I don’t have to chop them up

So, if you’re looking for ways to make meal prep easier, incorporating frozen vegetables into your meal plans can simplify things for you.
