Easy homemade buttermilk ranch dressing from scratch! A lot of ranch dressings out there call for premade ranch seasoning packets, but this one is all homemade with spices you would regularly find in your pantry! All you need to do is buy buttermilk! Deliciously creamy like the bottled stuff, except you know what’s in this lovely dressing!
I made this ranch dressing to go with my Buttermilk Ranch Fried Chicken. It was a match made in heaven! Ranch paired with more ranch? Can’t get any better than that! This dressing takes no more than 5 minutes to get together and tastes even better if you let it sit overnight. To that point, I recommend preparing this dressing a day ahead of use. The flavors really get to know each other and pop out a little more.
There are so many uses for this dressing as well! Become inspired with these examples of what to dip:
- Salads
- Fresh sliced veggies such as carrots, celery, broccoli, and bell peppers
- Chicken Bites
- Buttermilk Ranch Fried Chicken
- Pizza (it’s not unheard of!)
- Sausage rolls from your local pizzeria
- Quesadillas (not unheard of! It goes quite well with Buffalo Chicken Quesadillas)

Tips & FAQs
- Is it cheaper to make homemade ranch dressing than to buy the bottle? It can be depending on how often you eat ranch dressing. If you don’t eat it very often, then it is probably cheaper to buy the bottled stuff (it just won’t taste as good!)
- How long does homemade ranch dressing last? Homemade ranch dressing doesn’t have any added preservatives (which is another reason why it’s better to make your own!) so it will usually last about 1-2 weeks in the refrigerator before it starts to go bad.
- Add sriracha or chipotle peppers with adobo sauce for a spicy ranch dressing!
